Turning Interest Into Action
The use of plastic in Jakarta is increasing every year. Plastic bags litter the streets and housing gutters, disturbs natural life and causes droughts and other natural disasters. According to the World Bank (2019), Jakarta is known as the second biggest marine pollutant in the World. The high amounts of plastic waste that is littered every year contributes to this waste. But people still use plastic without thinking about the impact on the environment. Many people do not dispose of the plastic bags correctly, hence they eventually find their way into the ocean. Because of this, certain fish and ocean ecosystems are at risk of becoming extinct.
This is why Laut takes action. We as the young generation want to safeguard the environment now and for the future generations. We also want to invite people and communities to care more about nature and use environmentally friendly bags to strive towards a better future.
A clean and livable environment for everyone is our hope. So we want to ensure that in the Laut, there always remains somethin’ fishy...
